FAQ - Frequently asked questions

About BC1®

What does BC1® stand for?

BC1® stands for Business Channel One, an ad-free film platform for innovation in business. Every film is in 4K, including those from the first year, and they stay public and findable for years.

What is BC1®?

BC1® (Business Channel One) is an independent film platform and public knowledge archive on sustainable innovation and corporate social responsibility. Films remain publicly available and searchable here, often for years after the project that produced them has ended. Making films is part of that mission, not the goal in itself.

My project has ended. What happens to the story of my innovation?

In most cases, it simply disappears. The film sits on the project's own website, the project ends, and the page goes offline. If a new project starts a few years later, that knowledge can no longer be found, and the next party often starts from scratch, frequently using public funding again. On BC1®, the film stays online, public and findable, so others can build on it.

Who is BC1® for?

Two groups. Firstly, anyone who wants to see how an innovation works, the films are public and free to watch, from teachers and students to policy officers, journalists and entrepreneurs. Secondly, organisations with an innovation worth showing, from start-ups to knowledge institutions and government bodies, who want their story to remain findable years down the line.

What sets BC1® apart?

Our films explain rather than promote, following journalistic principles: factual, verifiable, and with room to acknowledge what doesn't work yet. There are no advertising breaks and no paywall. And unlike a typical campaign, the films don't disappear once the project ends. Everything stays subtitled and findable, including for AI systems that reference it. Subtitling comes as standard in seven languages (Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Danish and Swedish), ideal for international visibility.

Is BC1® run sustainably?

Yes. We work as close to CO2-neutral as we can, including our chain, from filming to the website. The way we work reflects the subjects we film.

Your film on BC1®

Can my own film be featured on BC1®?

Yes, provided it's about an innovation rather than a product for sale. An existing film can be published here, subtitled and accompanied by text, making it findable again. Our editorial team assesses the content: is it genuinely an innovation, is there something to see, would it be useful to others. Advertisements, recruitment videos and corporate promotional films don't qualify. If you're unsure whether your film fits, send it over and we'll take a look together to see what's possible. If there's no film yet, the BC1® team can produce one.

What kind of productions does BC1® make?

Journalistic films about innovations worth seeing: short documentaries and expert interviews covering topics such as the circular economy, the energy transition, healthcare and digitalisation. Advertisements, recruitment videos and corporate promotional films are not part of this, even if they touch on innovation.

Does BC1® work with external teams?

Absolutely. We regularly collaborate with communications departments and external editorial teams to get the message exactly right.

Does BC1® offer bespoke productions?

Yes. For each subject, we agree together on tone of voice and which points should stand out. We help sharpen the narrative so that even a complex innovation becomes easy to understand.

We need to report on sustainability (CSRD). Can BC1® help with that?

We don't write reports. What we do is show what's actually happening in practice, so employees, shareholders and the public understand where the figures come from. That film stays online and findable long after next year's report has been written.

Privacy and rights

Who owns the rights to the film?

You retain usage rights for your own communications. BC1® retains the right to show the film via its platform and media partners, unless otherwise agreed.

How does BC1® handle privacy?

We work fully in line with GDPR, and always obtain consent before filming people or locations.

How long does my film stay online?

Publications on BC1® remain permanently available, unless agreed otherwise, which is exactly what sets the archive apart from a temporary campaign.

Costs and budget

What does a production with BC1® cost?

Costs depend on length, production approach, locations, interviews and the languages required. We work exclusively with transparent, tailored quotes. You're not just paying for a production, but for a permanent, findable place in the archive.

Can costs end up higher than planned?

No. The quote covers all agreed work. Should additional requirements arise after approval, we'll provide a new quote for those. This way, you always know exactly where you stand financially.

Do you also make social media videos?

We'll be honest, quick social media videos are often better handled in-house. But if you're after an in-depth, high-quality production, we're happy to discuss what's possible within your budget, whether you're a sole trader or a smaller organisation. From such an in-depth production we can certainly cut short social media clips.

Are multilingual subtitles included?

Yes. Multilingual subtitling in English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Danish and Swedish is included as standard with BC1® productions. Subtitles in an additional language can be arranged and included in the quote.

How do I get my film published on BC1®?

Our editorial team first reviews the content, checking whether it's genuinely an innovation and whether it would be useful to others. If it fits, we'll look at what's still needed in terms of subtitling, text and publication. Get in touch for a no-obligation conversation, and we'll talk it through together.

Publication and distribution

Where will my film be published?

Your production appears on bc1.nl and on bc1.eu, our European channel. That is included, you do not have to ask for it separately. On bc1.eu it can be an English version, or the Dutch one. We also promote films through AI systems such as ChatGPT and Gemini, and via our social media channels. On BC1® itself, unlike a temporary social media post, the film stays permanently findable.

Does BC1® also handle distribution?

Yes. Alongside production, we distribute content through the BC1® platform, our social media channels and our themed pages. You're of course also welcome to use the film on your own website or channels.

How is the distribution strategy determined?

We agree the target audience and channels together, so your film reaches the right viewers, whether through BC1®, your own platforms, or both.

Is publication on BC1® mandatory?

No. If you'd prefer a production without publication via BC1®, we're happy to refer you to our partner VPromotions, offering the same quality and service, without publication.

Planning and collaboration

What forms of collaboration are possible?

We always work in consultation with you. For an existing film, we'll discuss together what's needed to publish it and keep it findable. For a new production, we discuss the setup, planning and content beforehand, with the journalistic angle remaining the editorial team's responsibility. In both cases, we agree everything in writing before starting.

How long does a production typically take?

Every production is different. Some are completed within a week, others take two to four weeks depending on complexity. Documentaries typically take three to six months.

What if I need something quickly?

Get in touch, and we'll see what's achievable together. Not every production requires a lot of time; we always tailor the process to your timeline.

How does BC1® ensure a smooth process?

We start with a clear briefing, communicate transparently throughout, and provide a preview link for feedback after editing. Any changes are handled quickly.

Am I involved throughout the process?

Yes. You'll discuss the concept and tone beforehand and approve the edit before the film is published, so you always stay in control of the result.

What if my organisation has specific requirements (branding, location, deadline)?

We agree these at the outset, avoiding surprises and keeping the process running smoothly.

Does BC1® help with storytelling or concept development?

Yes. Our editorial team is involved from the start, thinking through the setup, the content and what a viewer needs to understand it. The aim is for your innovation to be explained rather than promoted, which is exactly why the film stays useful for years.

Practical matters

How do I request a quote?

Email or call during office hours. We'll get back to you as soon as possible to discuss your requirements.

What if I'm not happy with the first version?

Feedback is a standard part of the process, and one round of revisions is always included.
