Real-world stories that stand the test of time
BC1® is an independent film platform and public knowledge archive on sustainable innovation. The films it hosts about innovative companies and projects aren't here temporarily, they stay: public, ad-free, and easy to find, even years after a project has wrapped up.
For education, that archive works as a genuine source. The films are made journalistically: factual, verifiable, and free of any sales pitch. That's exactly what makes them suitable for the classroom, a course module, or a presentation, even long after they were recorded.
Why these films work in education
- Factual, not promotional. The films explain how an innovation works, and where it still falls short. You won't find corporate pitches or advertising on BC1®. That's what makes the material usable as a source in its own right, not just as an illustration.
- Always findable. A film doesn't disappear from the platform just because a project has ended or a topic feels less current. A case recorded today will still be usable in your curriculum five years from now.
- Subtitled in five languages. The films are subtitled, making them well suited to international classrooms and internationalisation programmes.
- Free to use. The films are free to watch and use for educational purposes: in class, in internal presentations, or shared on an intranet or in a newsletter (with attribution, linking back to bc1.eu).
Two examples
Students at Eindhoven University of Technology built a car out of flax and sugar beet. Watch the full story. A project like this shows how you can make practical, hands-on learning visible, not as promotion, but as a story you can follow, about how something actually came together.
Another example: the CRE Practorate contributed to the documentary Circular Future Flevoland 2030. Contributions of that kind, bringing expertise into a larger story, also find a lasting home here.
Publishing an existing film, or making one together
If you already have material about a practice-based collaboration or research project, it can be published here: public, subtitled, and findable. This is especially valuable for films made for a specific project that would otherwise be impossible to find once it ends.
If no film exists yet, the BC1® team can make one. The editors apply the same criteria they use for any production: is there a real innovation, is there something to show, and does it offer value to someone else.
Is your institution itself the subject of a film on BC1®? You're free to use that material on your own channels too.

Use and licensing
The content is, at its core, free to use for educational purposes, with attribution. A licence is required for use beyond that scope; for example, a public exhibition, promotional material, or integration into your own website without attribution. In those cases, just get in touch; often a simple credit or backlink is all that's needed.
