Civil Society Organisations and BC1®

Stories that stand the test of time

insect on silphieBC1® is an independent film platform and public knowledge archive on sustainable innovation. The films here aren't temporary, they stay: public, ad-free, and easy to find, even years after a project has wrapped up.

If you work at a civil society organisation, this archive is a place where your work finds a lasting home.

What these films are, and what they aren't

The films explain how something works: factually, verifiably, with room for what still falls short. They aren't built to persuade or recruit. That's not a limitation, it's precisely why a policymaker, teacher, or journalist can still draw on the material as a source years later, rather than setting it aside as promotional fluff.

Of course, a film brings an organisation more recognition for its work. But that's a by-product, not the goal, and the difference lies in the approach: we decide the angle, and the film explains rather than sells.

Why this works for civil society organisations

Always findable

A film doesn't disappear once a project or funding period ends, and it stays discoverable through search engines and AI systems. Anyone looking for a concrete example of an approach or a solution can land on your project, even years down the line.

Subtitled in five languages

Useful for international partnerships, or for sharing a Dutch example beyond the Netherlands.

Two examples

Nature in the cityBC1® interviewed Maria van der Heijden, then director of MVO Nederland (the Dutch CSR network), about making the business sector more sustainable. Watch the interview. In a Kitchen Table Conversation, Sandra Pellegrom, then the national SDG coordinator, discussed the Sustainable Development Goals. Watch the conversation.

Both conversations are still online, not because they're breaking news, but because the ideas behind them still hold up.

Publishing an existing film, or making one together

If you already have material about a project or an approach, it can be published here: public, subtitled, and findable.

If no film exists yet, the BC1® team can make one. The editors apply the same criteria they use for any production: is there an innovation or approach with something to show, and does it offer value to someone else.

Is your organisation itself the subject of a film on BC1®? You're free to use that material on your own channels too.

You'll find more about how a film comes together, and how funding and editorial decisions work, on the information page.
