What is the difference with a plastic cup?
That it is not a cup but has the look of glass. The glass has an extra thin rim, which gives you a good drinking feel. You often see glasses with a folded rim that is not finished afterwards, and those are less pleasant to drink from. Worldwide there were only two series, the Pulsar Straight and the Pulsar Tulip. That has now changed, because Bordex Packaging from Apeldoorn is bringing a new series of recyclable plastic glasses onto the market, the Pulsar Soul.
How was it designed?
Many designs were made together with an in-house designer and a team. The requirements were fixed: a thick base, easy to unstack, and a design geared to the taste experience of each glass. In the end three designs remained, one of which was the clear favourite.
Worldwide patent on the base, the lines and the rim
Three unique innovations have been built into this series, and these have to do with the base, the lines and the rim. Bordex Packaging has applied for a worldwide patent on them.
Every drink gets its own glass
Many plastic glasses are used at events and mainly for beer. But consumer behaviour is changing. Wine, a juice or a speciality beer is asked for more and more often. That is why the taste experience was taken into account in the development of the Pulsar Soul, and in this series every drink has its own glass.
A designer and a mould maker worked on it
For the development of the Pulsar Soul, Bordex worked together with various specialists from the packaging industry. A designer and a mould maker, among others, contributed to the development. According to Bert Hengeveld, director of Bordex Packaging, it was essential to find the right craftsmen, and this shows that if you put craftsmen together you do not get the dot on the i but a big fat full stop.
