Flevoland Businesswoman 2019 awards
On Thursday 20 June 2019, during a festive awards evening, an independent jury announced who would carry the title of Flevoland Businesswoman 2019, an award for enterprising women in the Dutch province of Flevoland. It was quite a task for the jury this year, as they had to whittle down 63 entries to nine nominees. Right up until the last moment, they weren't sure who would eventually go home with the title, and it was only after lengthy deliberation that they reached a joint decision.
How are the candidates assessed?
Not just on the evening itself. Beforehand, the jury, made up of Marijke Hoogwoud, Marion Wichard, Willeke Waller, and Gerrit Jan Gorter, visits all the candidates at their companies, two by two. In the early years they deliberately chose not to, so as to keep their distance, but it's precisely those visits that turn out to be so valuable. Everyone is enthusiastic about their own business, and there's something special about seeing how people operate in their own surroundings.
Jolien Hoek, Nasima el Bachiri and Sarita Langenhof win
The women who can now call themselves Flevoland Businesswoman of 2019 are Jolien Hoek of the VMCA, the Volunteers and Informal Care Centre Almere , in the Managers category; Nasima el Bachiri of BFlex Cleaning in the SME category; and Sarita Langenhof of Newborn Spa in the ZP (independent professional) category.

The Flevoland Businesswoman of the Year awards are organised each year by the Netwerk Flevolandse Zakenvrouwen , an active network for enterprising women and female entrepreneurs. "The nomination is meant precisely to make women aware of what they're capable of, and above all to shake off that typically female modesty that even successful entrepreneurs still struggle with. With the awards, we give them a stage. And we see that the nomination really does give the women a real boost when it comes to their business," says Marcia Richardson, one of the network's two new chairs.
