Why we sit down at the kitchen table
During this strange Covid period, we're talking with people who inspire others and offer tips for keeping your spirits up. People who are using this time to come out the other side well prepared and ready to get going again.
Nevap, the Dutch platform for property management
Ilja Werkhoven is director of Nevap, the Nederlands Vastgoedexploitatie Platform, an independent knowledge and innovation platform dedicated to sharing and developing expertise while driving innovation forward.
Practical tips, and trends that are picking up speed
Ilja shares practical advice for making the most of this period of widespread working from home. She's also noticed that certain trends are now developing faster than she'd expected. That's why she encourages people to use this time to think through how best to take these developments on board, so that everyone can hit the ground running once things pick up again.
What were people asking about?
That changed quickly. At first, the questions were practical ones about meeting online, how does Zoom actually work? Later, they shifted to something bigger, if this carries on for a while, how do we hold on to our rhythm, and how do we coordinate that within a household?
What do you do when everything is uncertain?
You look at what's still possible. Things are unsettled and a lot is going on, says Ilja, but that doesn't let you off the hook when it comes to finding what can be done. Hence the practical tips and suggestions for getting through a period like this.
Plan two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon
Ilja was quick to start offering tips on rhythm, rest, and planning, and she still does, especially for young fathers who can't seem to find time to work. Her practical suggestion; block out two hours in the morning and two in the afternoon, and treat everything in between as travel time. Step outside for half an hour as if you were heading to your next appointment. It helps you prepare for what's ahead and let go of what came before.
