New Economy and new business models
In this fourth video in the New Leadership series, Koos discusses self-management, the New Economy, and new business models. He briefly touches on various books that shed more light on the subject, along with their authors.
Who is the European Ricardo Semler?
Anyone who looks into new forms of leadership will probably have heard of Ricardo Semler of Semco in Brazil. In Europe we have Lars Kolind. Kolind wrote the book Unboss, and its message comes down to this, as a leader, you do well to place your trust in your people. Let go, because your people know perfectly well how things should be done. Just watch what happens to their energy when you give them that trust, and what happens to you in the process.
Which books should you know?
Koos names four. Unboss by Lars Kolind and Ontmanagen voor managers (Unmanaging for Managers) by Thom Verheggen, both about letting go and trust. De laatste manager (The Last Manager) by Ben Kuiken, a plea for freedom, equality, and enterprise that, in his view, remains just as relevant years after it first appeared. And for anyone looking to do business in the new economy, Zaken doen in de nieuwe economie (Doing Business in the New Economy) by Marga Hoek, which explores new thinking, new ways of organising, and new business models.
Why is self-management the style of the future?
Because, as Koos sees it, everything comes back to the same principles: self-management, letting go, and giving trust. For him, that's the leadership style of the future. And anyone working in innovation, in research and development, or with new business models simply can't afford not to know a few of these thinkers.
Who is Koos Groenewoud?
Koos is a coach, interim manager, columnist, reviewer, and speaker, as well as an expert in the field of New Leadership, which puts him in a strong position to help managers become better leaders and achieve better results.
New Leadership series
In this series, Koos Groenewoud uses four videos to explore the opportunities and possibilities that New Leadership offers. He explains that it's mainly about adjusting your own behaviour, and shows how important it is to stand among your people rather than above them.
